Communication Department Scholarships
For School Year 2016-2017

The Communication Department is offering Communication students the opportunity to apply to four of our scholarships. Applications are to be submitted ONLINE at https://csueastbay.academicworks.com the deadline is Monday April 10th, 2017. There are separate qualifications for each of these scholarships, they are as follows:

Karl Robinson Scholarship: $500

  • Be a full-time student in Junior level or above standing, majoring in Communication, with an Option in Professional, Public and Organizational Communication
  • Have a minimum overall 3.0 GPA and a minimum 3.25 GPA in the major
  • Submit a one-page essay describing career goals and your involvement in Communication Dept., the University and/or community. Include how this scholarship will benefit you
  • Submit two letters of recommendation
  • Be enrolled in Fall 2017 quarter
  • Have financial need, as demonstrated by completing the General Application’s Financial Need Statement

Communication Department Scholarship: $600

  • Be a full-time student majoring in Communication
  • Have a 2.5 GPA for undergraduate or 3.0 GPA for graduate student
  • Submit a one-page essay describing career goals and your involvement in Communication Dept., the University and/or community. Include how this scholarship will benefit you
  • Submit two letters of recommendation
  • Be enrolled in Fall 2017 quarter

John Gothberg Scholarship: up to $2,500

  • Be a student majoring in Communication with an option in Media Productions or Advertising and Public Relations
  • Have a minimum 3.0 GPA.
  • Be a continuing or transferring junior or senior student
  • Submit a one-page essay describing career goals and your involvement in Communication Dept., the University and/or community. Include how this scholarship will benefit you
  • Submit two letters of recommendation
  • Be enrolled in Fall 2017 quarter

Tenacity Scholarship: $5,000

  • Be a full-time student majoring in Communications
  • Have a minimum 2.0 GPA for undergraduate students and 3.0 GPA for graduate students
  • Have financial need, as demonstrated by completing the General Application’s Financial Need Statement
  • Submit a 250-word personal statement that explains how your persistence has enabled you to continue in school despite personal challenges and obstacles. The statement should consider: academic and professional dreams and goals; family and work obligations; and personal characteristics that have helped you persist in school
  • Submit two letters of recommendation
  • Be enrolled in Fall 2017 quarter
  • Be a US citizen, permanent resident or AB540 Dream Act student
