Americans have long considered Cuba to be the cultural gem of the Caribbean. But underneath the quintessentially Cuban foods, music and lifestyle, this island’s culture harbors many of the same problems regarding inclusion, appropriation and denial of history that are ubiquitous in the rest of the Western Hemisphere. These students were unafraid to delve into otherwise obscured elements of Cuban life and culture.
