London Summer Study Program 2016
The British Documentary Experience is designed to give undergraduate students a practical and powerful educational opportunity to study the history and practice of documentary filmmaking in the United Kingdom.
As our host city, London provides the most ideal backdrop for the study of documentary history and theory because it was a subject of the British crown who coined the term “documentary” as a name for the genre known for producing what was then known as non-fiction film. Their connection with documentary makes the British perspective essential to our study of this genre. London offers the most museums, archival holdings, institutions and individual artists that focus on the field as a discipline and livelihood. This program gives students a chance to apply critical viewpoints to what we watch, talk about, and research through written responses and class discussions.
