Daniel Larios

After turning 30, I decided to finish school and change career paths.  2 years ago, I began my journey at CSUEB. I remember meeting Dr. Cardaras and immediately felt inspired. In one of her classes, she briefly spoke about setting up a travel abroad program to Cuba. I  remember telling her, “If you make Cuba happen at all, in any capacity, count me in for sure.”

I’m somewhat traveled having served in the military, and one of the things that keeps you sane while overseas is having something that can bring you home. For me that was sports. Growing up in LA, one of my favorite memories was walking into Dodger Stadium and seeing a perfectly manicured bright green field with my boys in blue playing their hearts out.

Over the past decade, there have been increasing numbers of Cuban defectors wishing to play in the U.S.  While many fans see the final product, most don’t know why or how this happens. I wanted to shed some light on the subject and tell the story of the people who are forgotten in the commotion. The Cuban fans.
